What Is Structural Steel Angle?
Angle steel, also known as angle bar, angle steel, or angle iron, refers to long structural steel sections with 2 sides perpendicular to each other, forming an L-shaped cross-section with a typical angle of 90 degrees. Angle steel is one of the most common structural steel sections. Carbon and low-alloy steel angles are widely used in steel structure construction, such as framework components of industrial buildings. There are also galvanized steel angles and stainless steel angles
As a structural steel supplier, our angle steel offers good weldability, plastic deformation capabilities, and a certain level of mechanical strength. It is manufactured from low-carbon steel and low-alloy steel square steel billets and supplied in a hot-rolled, normalized, or hot-rolled condition.
Steel Angle Types by Material

Carbon Structural Steel Angle
- Size Range: Domestic hot-rolled equal-leg angle steel specifications range from No. 2 to No. 20. Common leg lengths range from 20 mm to 200 mm, with thicknesses from 3.0 mm to 24.0 mm.
- Length: Standard length ranges are 3 to 12 meters.
- Main Applications: Widely used in various general construction and engineering structures, such as factory frameworks, building beams, bridges, power transmission towers, hoisting and transport machinery, and ships.

Low-Alloy High-Strength Structural Steel Angle
- Dimensions: The dimensions of the LAHS steel angle are similar to carbon structural steel angle, it is produced according to the GB/T 706 standard. AGICO can also supply structural steel angles in larger thickness and size to meet higher-strength heavy-load applications; for example leg thicknesses of up to 24 mm.
- Applications: high-strength steel angles are used for steel structures demanding superior strength, toughness, and safety, such as large-scale structural frameworks, high-rise building core walls, heavy machinery bases, offshore platforms, and ultra-high-voltage (UHV) transmission towers.
Steel Angle Fabrication Service by Applications

AGICO offers a full range of common deep-processing services of steel angles, including
- Cutting: Cutting to specific lengths as required
- Drilling/Punching: Machining mounting or connection holes
- Welding: Assembly into structural components
- Bending: Forming to specific angles or curvatures
- Surface treatment: Hot-dip galvanizing, painting, polishing, etc.
These fabricated steel angles can be used in various structural applications for buildings, shipbuilding, bridge structures, power transmission towers, solar mounting, etc.
Structural Angle Steel
Structural angle steels are the most widely used hot-rolled steel angle products in construction and engineering structures.
- American standards: ASTM A36 (tensile strength approx. 56,000–80,000 psi; minimum yield strength 36,000 psi)
- European standards: S235, S275, and S355 series (compliant with EN 10025-2 and EN 10056)
- Chinese standards: Q235B (compliant with GB/T 700 and GB/T 706)
Applications: Angle steels are widely used in the fabrication of beams, columns, and trusses in building structures; bridge structures; industrial plant frameworks; general support and connection components.

Shipbuilding Angle Steel
Marine angle steels are heavy-duty L-shaped steel sections specifically designed for shipbuilding and offshore engineering.
- Marine angle steels grades: AH36, DH36, and EH36 (high-strength), as well as Grades A and B (normal-strength).
- Steel standards: ASTM A131 (US standard for marine structural steel), GB/T 706, JIS, EN, etc.
- Certain marine steel angle require low-temperature impact testing (e.g., FH32 and FH40 require testing at -60°C).
Applications: Angle steel is mostly used as hull framing and ribs; longitudinals and stiffeners for decks and hull plating; hatch coaming supports; equipment mounting brackets and base stiffeners.

Angle Steel for Transmission Towers
Angle steel for power transmission towers refers to hot-rolled equal-leg angle steel specifically manufactured for use in building transmission towers.
- Common steel grades: Q235B/C/D, Q355B/C/D, Q420B/C/D, Q460C, etc.
- Angle steel standard: YB/T 4163 (Special standard for hot-rolled angle steel for power transmission towers).
- Angle steel for certain projects adhere to Q/GDW 10706 (Technical specifications for angle steel towers in State Grid UHV transmission and transformation line projects).
Applications: Angle steel are produced for power transmission line towers and substation structures. High-strength Q420 angle steel has been successfully utilized in 750kV and 1000kV UHV demonstration lines.

Steel Angle for Solar Mounting
Angle steel for solar mounting systems is a product specifically designed for the installation frameworks of photovoltaic (PV) modules.
- Steel Grades: Q235B or Q355B carbon structural steel
- Surface finish: Hot-dip galvanized

Applications: PV mounting systems (large-scale ground-mounted power plants, rooftop PV, etc.); PV bases, lightning protection and grounding, curtain wall framing, and guardrail construction.

Steel Angle for Industrial Equipment
Angle steel for industrial equipment refers to angle steel products fabricated for the manufacturing of various machinery and the construction of industrial facilities.
Common materials and standards:
- Q235B is commonly used for general applications (compliant with GB/T 700).
- Q355 or SN490 may be selected for high-strength requirements.
- 304/316 or 430 stainless steel is suitable for corrosive environments.
Applications: Industrial equipment frameworks and bases; support frames or guide rails for conveyor systems; industrial furnaces, reaction towers, and vessel racks; cable trench supports and equipment safety railings; generator set support structures.
