Corner Sheet Pile Introduction
Corner sheet piles, also known as sheet pile corner connectors, are special steel section used at the corners of sheet pile cofferdams or retaining walls, they are designed for use with hot rolled sheet piles with Larssen interlocks in accordance with EN10248. The basic function is to reliably connect sheet piles in different directions at the corners, ensuring that the cofferdam or wall forms a continuous, sealed, and properly stressed closed structure.
It can be used where the following angle profiles cannot accommodate the required change in wall direction. The joint can be easily formed by welding the C9 angle profile to the sheet pile at the required location. This can be welded on site or before delivery.
Failure of foundation pit support or leakage in cofferdams is often directly related to the performance of the corner sheet pile lock mechanism. As a core connector for steel pipe piles/sheet piles, the selection of the C9 corner pile mechanism directly impacts project safety.

C9 Corner Pile Manufacture Requirement
- Structural Design C9 Sheet Pile:
The C9 lock mechanism utilizes a C-section mechanical interlocking design. The hook and tooth structure meets the shear resistance requirements of the “Technical Code for Building Foundation Pit Support.” A 92°±1° connection angle optimizes axial force distribution within the pile. The integrated hot-rolling process minimizes the risk of weld defects. - Steel Material for C9 Corner Pile
The minimum standard for the base material of the C9 and other lock mechanisms is Q355B steel: yield strength ≥ 345 MPa. A carbon equivalent (CEV) ≤ 0.44% ensures weld toughness.

C9 Corner Pile Specifications:
C9 corner piles are designed and manufactured for u type and z type sheet pile connections, These corner segments interlock with the Z- and U-segments to create corner or connecting piles without the need for prefabricated special piles. C9 and other corner piles are made of the same material of sheet piles, h beam and pipe piles. Here are the chemical composition and mechanical property of corner pile steel according to en10248:

Sheet Pile Corner Connectors Installation – Bolt and Welding :

The hot-rolled Corner sheet piles provided by AGICO can be installed according to site conditions, generally its’ bolt connection for temporary piling project and welding for permanent piling. It is used for temporary project for environmental protection, for it can be recycled and have no pollution to the environment, the cost and pro and cons of bolt connection method and welded installation are different, please check the following analysis before making the final decision, if you are not sure which one to choose, feel free to contact us now for adviced from our engineers!
| Aspect | Bolted Connection | Welded Installation |
|---|---|---|
| Method | – Pre-drill bolt holes on corner pile and adjacent members- Use high-strength or standard bolts for fastening- Often combined with splice/connection plates | – Weld corner pile to adjacent piles on-site or in prefabrication- Commonly uses fillet welds, full-penetration welds, or plug welds with matching electrodes |
| Installation Speed | Fast — simply align, insert bolts, and tighten; good for modular construction | Slower — requires welding, cooling, slag removal, and touch-up coating |
| Environmental Requirements | Can be performed in wet or low-temperature conditions (as long as bolts meet spec) | Sensitive to weather — avoid welding in rain, excessive moisture, or very low temperatures |
| Quality Control | Easy — torque or tension of bolts can be measured; visual inspection is straightforward | Requires weld inspection (visual, UT/MT if specified); depends on qualified welders and proper procedure |
| Removability / Replaceability | Fully removable — connections can be disassembled for replacement or adjustment | Permanent — cutting is required to remove or modify connections |
| Structural Stiffness & Continuity | Slightly lower stiffness; some slip possible unless preloaded bolts used | High stiffness and continuity — excellent for structural integrity and sealing |
| Corrosion Protection | Requires galvanized/painted bolts, washers, and sealant; bolt holes can trap water | Weld areas need re-coating after welding; heat-affected zone may be more prone to corrosion |
| Typical Applications | – Temporary works- Projects needing future disassembly- Jobs requiring rapid installation or allowing slight rotation | – Permanent structures- Projects requiring watertightness, high stiffness, or no disassembly |
| Cost | Slightly higher material cost (bolts, plates, drilling) but lower labor cost | Lower material cost but higher labor/inspection cost (welding, NDT, re-coating) |
