Flat Sheet Pile Detail
Flat Sheet Pile Features

- Interlocking Features
It has a simple interlocking structure suitable for forming a uniform arc when spliced. It can be used to form regular circular or polygonal cylinders than U or Z-shaped piles. - Force and Function
A cyclic structure primarily relies on its circumferential integrity to withstand external water and soil pressures: single flat sheet pile has low stiffness, when combined into a cylinder structure, the overall strength and stability are significantly improved.
What is Flat-type Straight Web Sheet Pile
Flat Sheet Pile, also known as Flat Web Sheet Pile, it is designed with straight web, its name in most steel sheet pile standards is straight web sheet pile. It is featured with high interlock strength and a rotation angle, can be made into cylindrical structure with large diameter and height. Flat sheet pile is ideal for water stoping in shallow foundation pits for high interlocking clutch strength, it can form regular circular or polygonal cylinder. Compared with other sheet piles, flat sheet pile is more suitable for small and medium-sized cylindrical structures (such as caissons and cofferdams) with high requirements for economy and watertightness.
Z-Type Sheet Pile Interlock: Larssen locks, hot rolled interlock

Flat Sheet Pile Interlock
- Strong Interlock Strength Combi wall steel structure formed by flat sheet piles has high tensile strength, and undertakes pressure from water with its’ interlock, which not only provides water stopping function, but also the anti-corrosion effect.
- Low Cost of Material and Installation The flat web sheet pile price and piling cost is relatively low. The cylindrical structure as a whole bears external forces, mitigating the problem of insufficient rigidity of a single pile. It is suitable for temporary or permanent cylinders such as cofferdams and caissons.
- Rotate Angle – Flexible Install Flat web sheet pile can be used to form a cylindrical structure due to its deviation angle, which is decided by the design of the interlock, the deviation angle is strictly following the standard of EN 10248.

3 Key Factors in Flat-type Sheet Pile Manufacturing
Flat Sheet Pile Interlock Design and Mechanical Properties:
Flat sheet piles from AGICO are designed to withstand horizontal tensile forces primarily through their interlocking strength, rather than bending moments like Z- or U-shaped sheet piles. The mechanical properties of these piles depend on their ability to resist uncoupling under tension, with some namebrands’ straight-web sheet piles have an interlocking strength of up to 5,880 kN/m.
Commonly used steel grades, such as S355GP or S430GP according to EN 10248, have minimum yield strengths of 355 N/mm² and 430 N/mm², respectively, ensuring a robust honeycomb structure. These grades offer tensile strengths ranging from 490 to 600 N/mm², with elongations typically exceeding 20%, allowing for plastic deformation without failure.
Chemical Composition of Flat Sheet Pile Steel
The chemical composition of flat-type straight web sheet piles is carefully designed to ensure high strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance, typically conforming to hot-rolled sheet pile standards such as EN 10248. Common steel grades, such as S355GP and S430GP, contain a maximum carbon content of 0.27%, a maximum manganese content of 1.70%, a maximum phosphorus and sulfur content of 0.05%, and a maximum silicon content of 0.55%. Trace elements such as nitrogen are limited to 0.011% to prevent embrittlement, while the carbon equivalent value (CEV) is also controlled, typically below 0.45%, to ensure weldability. This composition achieves a balance of strength and ductility, which is critical for withstanding the tensile forces in honeycomb structures.
The chemical composition also contributes to corrosion resistance sufficient for marine environments with protective coatings. While its corrosion resistance is not as good as that of alloys such as Incoloy 901 (40-45% nickel), its unique composition, combined with a galvanized or epoxy coating, ensures durability in soil or water. This makes straight web piles a cost-effective solution for temporary and permanent structures such as cofferdams and quay walls.
Dimensional tolerances in Flat Sheet Pile Manufacture
Dimensional tolerances for straight-web piles are critical to ensure proper interlocking engagement, structural integrity, and ease of installation, and are typically governed by the EN 10248 standard. External width tolerances are ±2% of nominal width, with a maximum of ±10 mm, to ensure consistent unit geometry. Wall thickness tolerances are ±1 mm (up to 8 mm thick) and ±1.5 mm (thicker sections) to maintain uniform strength. Straightness is limited to 0.2% of the pile length to prevent excessive deviation during driving. Interlock tolerances are strictly controlled to ensure watertightness, with a maximum deviation angle of 4.5 degrees per interlock, which can be extended to 12 degrees through a special bending process.
