Steel Tie Rod Structure and Parts Design
The design of steel tie rods needs to be classified according to different application requirements. To meet the needs of domestic and foreign markets for steel tie rods of different specifications and models, steel tie rods can be supplied into construction (bridge) steel tie rod series and dock steel tie rod series.
Design Of Steel Tie Rod Series For Buildings (Bridges)
The structural connection form of the 2 ends of the building (bridge) steel tie rod should be determined according to the form and distance of the connection endpoints of the engineering structure. It is mainly divided into the following basic types:



- UU Type: A U-shaped connector with threaded connections at both ends, commonly used to connect single-ear plates in structures.
- OO Type: Both ends are O-type joints or forged O-type earrings, suitable for double ear plate structures.
- OU type: one end is a U-shaped joint, and the other end is an O-shaped joint or a forged O-shaped earring, which is suitable for the structure of a single ear plate at one end and a double ear plate at the other end.
The diameter of the steel tie rod ranges from Φ20 mm to Φ150 mm, and the length can be adjusted according to demand. By increasing the number of adjusting sleeves (connectors with left-hand and right-hand threads), the length of the steel tie rod can be flexibly adjusted.
Design of Dock Steel Tie Rod Series
The dock steel tie rod is connected into one piece through a hinge plate (1-way or 2-way) and an adjustment sleeve. It is divided into the following types according to the hinge type and quantity:
- D1 Type : Contains a 1-way hinge, suitable for structures with 1-way adjustment.
- S1 Type: Contains a 2-way hinge, providing 2-way adjustment capability.
- D2 type: contains 2 1-way hinges, suitable for situations with high bidirectional adjustment accuracy.
- S2 type: contains 2 2-way hinges, suitable for structures that require 2-way adjustment.

High-strength Steel Tie Rods For Large Dock Construction
Shanghai Hudong Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd. selected domestic high-strength steel tie rods for the first time in a large dock construction project. 7 specifications of dock steel tie rods were used in the project, totaling 484 sets with a total weight of 600 tons. After an on-site assessment by the China Classification Society Shanghai Branch surveyor and the project supervisor, the test results of all steel tie rods met the technical requirements and passed acceptance smoothly.
